Old Fort Mountain Music

Last night we had the distinct privilege to visit a small town here in NC called "Old Fort". Every Friday night there is "Mountain Music" from 7-10 pm in an old store front in the middle of town. The music is wonderfully indigenous to the highlands of the Appalachian Mountains: banjos, mandolins, dobbros, slide guitars, upright bass, and piano. Add some thickly-accented gospel lyrics and you have Mountain Music. Different bands and musicians can sign up for 30-minute time slots to show off their stuff, while the locals do something they call "clogging", but actually reminded us more of tap-dancing. They wear these shoes with metal toes and heels. It was a real cultural experience for us both, but especially for Justin :) We had a great time, even bought an autographed cd from one of the musicans named Bobby Gardner.
Here is Gabby at Old Fort. She is so social and danced with all the old people. I think it made their month! It was so cute.

Here is Bobby Gardner's band. This is a slow song so they were not clogging during this song...but slow dancing. There was an unwritten rule that you shouldn't dance during the Gospel songs.

More pictures coming...We are on our way out the door to Asheville.
