Shindig on the Green

Well, we (with our friend, Johnny) found ourselves in another "cultural experience" last night. We drove to Asheville, NC, to find some action. Union Mills just wasn't doing it for us during a long weekend. We didn't really know what we'd find, but wanted to find something to do. After wandering downtown Asheville (FYI there are lots of hippies there...very interesting people watching) for a little bit, we realized they were setting up for some kind of festival or concert or something. We asked a man who was sitting on a plastic lawn chair, his feet resting on his guitar case. He said that this was the last weekend in a big festival called "Shindig on the Green". Cool, we thought, more culture! We decided to go grab some dinner at Bayou Barbeque before the festival began at 7pm. Mmmmm...good barbeque. And then, it was a blast just walking around listening to all these different bluegrass bands, complete with fiddles, banjos, mandolins, guitars, steel guitars, upright bass, harmonicas... Different bands were playing all around the main square, and then judges would walk around and invite different ones to play on stage. So here are some pictures of what we experienced last night. Sorry you can't hear it...they were amazing musicians. And yes, there were more cloggers.

Here are a few pictures from a pool game called "toothpick". This was last week, but we wanted to share the pics with you because they're pretty funny.... Basically, someone puts a toothpick on the bottom of the pool and then everyone else stands on the outside of the pool and tries to jump in and grab the toothpick as they're jumping. If you don't grab it on the jump you have to get out and jump again. That was a bad explanation...just look at the photos... :)

And lastly, a recent picture of us here at CIT:

Thank you for your continued prayers during our time here in NC. We really appreciate your remembrance of us as we prepare our minds and hearts and hands and feet for His service in Albania!
